The Boots of the Brave project is part of the Armed Services YMCA event, where art and storytelling come together to honor our heroes. Each boot tells a unique story, and I’m excited to share this creative journey with you as it unfolds.

In Part 2 of my Boots of the Brave series, I focus on the right boot, where the story begins. Inspired by real testimonials from military families, this design highlights the stress and uncertainty many face before finding support through the Armed Services YMCA’s children’s waiting rooms. From the overwhelmed father to the mother juggling care for her kids, each detail was created to reflect the emotional weight of this journey. Stay tuned for Part 3, where we continue the story on the left boot.
Part three of my Boots of the Brave series takes you through the design of the left boot, where the story continues from a different perspective. This side follows a new military family, revealing emotional shifts and moments of hope through detailed illustrations. From the children playing in the waiting room to a parent finding peace in conversation with a nurse, every panel on the boot tells part of their journey. This was a special project with the Armed Services YMCA for their Boots of the Brave event, created to highlight the experiences of military families in a unique, visual way.
Here’s the creative process from working on the Boots of the Brave project. This is how the art for the 2nd boot came together. All the details, from the first sketch to the final paint. Mixing colors and figuring out how to make it all work. It wasn’t just about painting, it was about telling a story that mattered.
